Taiwan Lantern Festival 2013

The annual Taiwan Lantern Festival is being held in Hsinchu in 2013. The colorfully lit lanterns are quite a spectacular view. The event is open to the public and very conveniently accessible since the site for the Lantern Festival is right outside the High Speed Rail Station. Be sure to visit if you have time (preferably in the evening when it is dark, since the lanterns are the most magnificent when lit up at night), it will definitely be worthwhile. Below are some pictures taken on February 24, 2013, which was the opening day of the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival.




2013 is year of the snake, which is why the primary lantern is a snake. Many of the secondary lanterns are also related to the Chinese zodiac sign of the snake.

A fish, which is an auspicious symbol of "always having more than enough" - a favorite during the Chinese New Year Festivities.
